This is the source element for playback of an existing audio file or playlist of audio files.

| Sampling rate | Information field: Shows the current sample rate of the input. |

Toggles behavior in case of no incoming audio data.

| Override display name |
Changes the name by which this audio source element is displayed in the PIPEs list (instead of “File”). Note that this is separate and distinct to the PIPE's name. Example: Naming it “Channel 1,2” to see which input channels are used. |
| Passthrough |
Toggles whether incoming audio is decoded upon entering the system.
Note: This option requires a license. See here for details. |
| Timestamp smoothing |
Toggles whether timestamps should be restamped if they do not match system time.

| Playlist | Configures which files are played out via the File source. |
| New Entry / Entries | New Entry configures a whole new track in the playlist. Existing Entries can be configured under their respective accordion menus (after they have been created). |
| Search Parameter |
Search fields to filter for audio files to add to the playlist. Click Search to apply the current filters. Click Clear to remove all filters.

| Track selection |
Selects the track to use when a multi-track file is selected. Note: Use a number to select by index number. Use a codec name (mp3, aac, eac3, etc.) to select by encoding. |
| Length | Information field: Shows the total length of the selected track in miliseconds (ms). |
| Cue in | Sets a offset cut at the beginning of the track in miliseconds (ms). |
| Cue out | Sets a offset cut at the end of the track in miliseconds (ms). |
| Associated metadata object |
Dropdown: Selects a metadata object to use for this file source. Note: Metadata objects must first be configured first to show up here. |
| Transition to next file | Configures the transition between tracks in the playlist. |
| Next start | Sets the time before Cue out at which the following track is scheduled. |
| Fade in | Sets the time after Cue in after which the new track is fully faded in. |
| Fade out | Sets the time before Cue out when fade out begins. |
| Append Playlist | See options under Playlist for Append Playlist options. |
| Loop playback | Toggles whether the current playlist restarts from the first track after ending ("On") or not ("Off"). |
| Consume playlist | Toggles whether played tracks are removed from the playlist ("On") or not ("Off"). |
| Play file by file | Toggles whether playback is paused after every track ("On") or not ("Off"). If turned “On”, you must start the PIPE again after each track. |

| Length (playlist) | Information field: Shows the total length of the entire playlist track in miliseconds (ms). |
| Effective length (current file) | Information field: Shows the length of the current track in miliseconds (ms) accounting for cue in/out, etc. |
| Position (current file) | Information field: Shows the current playback position of the selected track in miliseconds (ms). |
| Current file | Information field: Shows which track (by index number) of the current playlist is currently played back. |
