This is an encoder (yellow) element. It encodes the audio according to the ISO/IEC 11172-3, ISO/IEC 13818-3 standards (MPEG-1 Audio Layer II or MPEG-2 Audio Layer II).
| ! | MPEG-1 Audio Layer II |
| MP2 is a lossy audio comrpession format. It supports a wide range of sampling rates, bit rates, channel configurations, as well as variable bitrate for more efficient encoding. MP2 has less compression than MP3. This makes it less resource-intensive than MP3 encoding, but it also require higher bitrates for comparable results. |
| E | Cautious configuration recommended |
| The MP2 element includes many options that require an in-depth understanding of audio encoding to correctly configure. This is especially true of the Expert view options. Caution is advised when configuring these options. For most applications it is enough to set the desired bitrate and leave the other options untouched. |
| Element | Description |
|---|---|
| Nominal bitrate | Information field: Shows the current bitrate when the PIPE is active. |
| Bitrate | Sets the bitrate in kbit/s. Note that you can use the selector to the right (⇒) to select one of the common bitrates. |
| ATH level | |
| Copyright flag | Toggles whether a copyright flag is inserted into the stream ("On"). |
| Emphasis filter |
Dropdown: Selects an emphasis filter.
|
| Write peak PCM level to each frame | Toggle |
| Add checksum to each frame | Toggle |
| Encoding mode |
Dropdown: Selects the encoding mode used.
|
| Original flag | Toggle |
| Padding | Toggle |
| Psychoacoustic model | |
| Variable bitrate mode | Toggles whether constant ("Off") or variable ("On") bitrate is used. |
| VBR Level | (If Variable bitrate mode is “On”) Sets the possible range for variabte bitrate encoding. |
| Maximum VBR bitrate | (If Variable bitrate mode is “On”) Sets the maximal allowed bitrate. |
| UECP bytes per frame | (If UECP metadata is included) Sets the number of UECP bytes to multiplex in a frame. |
