This is an encoder (yellow) element. It encodes the audio according to the Advanced Audio Coding standard. This is the Fraunhofer version of AAC. For the Open Source implementation, see here.

AAC is a lossy digital audio compression codec. It is a very efficient codec that achieves good audio quality at low bitrates. AAC is used in everything from web radio and podcasting to DVB-TS. The conventional AAC encoder is now known as AAC LC (Low Complexity). Newer encoder modes are designed for specific applications or circumstances:

| Element | Description |
|---|---|
| Nominal bitrate | Information field: Shows the current bitrate when the PIPE is active. |
| Output sample rate | Information field: Shows the current sample rate when PIPE is active. |
| Encoder mode / audio object type |
Dropdown: Selects the specific AAC encoder mode used.
Note: Selecting xHE-AAC (AOT 42) enables additional options unique to this encoder mode. See the table below this one for options. |
| Bitrade mode |
Dropdown: Selects constant or variable bitrate options. See VBR values for information on viable bitrate ranges. |
| Bitrate |
Sets the bitrate in kbit/s. Note that you can use the selector to the right (⇒) to select one of the common bitrates. Note: See tooltip for information on viable bitrate ranges. |

| Element | Description |
|---|---|
| Loudness |
Sets the target loudness in dB (LUFS). Note: In an on-demand processing workflow, this field is filled automatically. |
| Sample peak |
Sets the target peak in dB (FS). Note: In an on-demand processing workflow, this field is filled automatically. |
| Embed DRC gains |
Toggles whether dynamic range control gains are embedded into the audio. If toggled “On”, decoders can apply environmental DRC effects. See tooltip for examples. |
| RAP occurrence |
Selects the frequency of access points in the xHE stream.
|
| RAP occurence dropdown |
Dropdown
|
| Interval | (Only available if Constant interval is selected in the RAP occurence dropdown) Sets the RAP interval in miliseconds. |
| Stream ID | Information field: Shows the automatically assigned ID for this stream within an adaptive bitrate stream set (HLS, DASH). |
